Leadership reminders I take to heart
1. You can’t rush the refinement of your character
Instead of wanting to be on the same level of capacity and ability as others, take the time to obey just the next thing God is asking you to obey. The people we look up to have had to pay the cost, and that’s something we may never know fully — but the same denominator is always obedience.
2. You’ll never go wrong when you choose humility (whether in ministry, career, or relationships)
Yes, easier said than done. I, too, sometimes overlook my moments of pride!
One of my main desires as a leader is to maintain a teachable heart.
It pays to listen to the Word and the right voices in your life, the ones the Lord has appointed to check on you and keep you on track. Since I also write a lot, doing heart checks help me assess and rebuke myself :p
Ultimately, I get to acknowledge my prideful moments in my quiet time with the Lord.
I’ve also learned this in the process: a moment of pride does not make you a prideful person. What makes you prideful is your inability to acknowledge and admit your prideful moment. When you refuse to acknowledge, it repeats and becomes a cycle.
Pride is sneaky and subtle..and it is dangerous. It poisons relationships, blocks the presence of God, and hinders the grace and hand of God to flow and move.
3. You only lose when you put Jesus last
Everything boils down to genuinely wanting to honor and love the Lord. Intimacy with Him changes everything.
Our intimacy with Him attracts not just the good things, but the best things! You attract the best when you are close to the Giver of the best. God gives His best to those who seek His face and honor him in their secret place.
4. Always ask the Lord how ‘good stewardship’ would look like in your current season. You’d be surprised how different it would be.
Good stewardship is not about a leader’s excellence or giftedness. It’s how much he values all that God has entrusted him with.
Lord, may I be a good steward of every person, resource, or earthly reward that you have placed and will place in my hands. And may I always give back the glory unto You.
